God Needs No House
2 Samuel 7:1-11a NRSV
I have not lived in a house since the day I brought up the people of Israel from Egypt to this day, but I have been moving about in a tent and a tabernacle. (2 Samuel 7:6)
Let us not focus so much on the physical house of God that we neglect the spiritual house.

Ornan’s Land Is Site of Temple
1 Chronicles 21:28 NRSV
At that time, when David saw that the Lord had answered him at the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite, he made his sacrifices there. (1 Chronicles 21:28)
Praise God where and when you receive God’s answer.

Solomon to Build the Temple
1 Chronicles 28:2-10 NRSV
He said to me, ‘It is your son Solomon who shall build my house and my courts, for I have chosen him to be a son to me, and I will be a father to him. (1 Chronicles 28:6)
For those of us in leadership positions, how do we graciously build up next generation leaders so that they might build for God?
Monday, December 9
David Cannot Build the Temple
1 Chronicles 22:6-13 NRSV
But the word of the Lord came to me, saying, ‘You have shed much blood and have waged great wars; you shall not build a house to my name, because you have shed so much blood in my sight on the earth. (1 Chronicles 22:8)
There are times when we might not lead or build; but, our faithful desire can still be acknowledged by God.
Sunday, December 8 SECOND SUNDAY OF ADVENT
God’s Wondrous Deeds for all People

O give thanks to the Lord, call on his name, make known his deeds among the peoples. (1 Chronicles 16:8)
Our testimony to God’s goodness might be just the thing to resuscitate a thankful heart of another. Speak it, write it, email it, text it, tweet it—just share it!
